Tansy - general description

Tansy (Tanacétum) - a perennial shrub or grass, belongs to the family of Astrovidae, or Compositae. Chrysanthemums close to them in genus are often included in the genus of tansy. Wintering rhizome is short, slightly branched, the stem is often woody from below, therefore, sometimes the plant is classified as shrub. Oval-shaped leaves have cirrus dissected leaf blades, on which there are sticky secretions, sometimes even resins. Leaves have a strong characteristic odor. Tubular flowers are collected in dense and loose inflorescences of the corymbose type in the form of baskets.

Tansy - types and places of growth

There are various data on the number of varieties of this plant, from 50 to 120 species, which are found in temperate countries in Europe and Asia, North Africa and North America. Russia and countries close to it number 30-40 species. It grows in all areas - mountain, steppe, on swampy floodplains of rivers and in the tundra. The most common tansy, with which the whole genus is associated.

This is a weed that can be found near roads, varieties and its names so much that the local population does not even assume that when talking about, for example, milfoil, we mean ordinary tansy. Some of its species: wormwood, silver, Atkinson, camphor, dipterous, Buglas, Harajan and others. Balsamic tansy is also common in Russia; it has been grown by humans for more than three thousand years for use as a food, medicine, and aromatic product.

Tansy - healing properties

With a huge number of diseases, you can use drugs from this plant. It has extensive healing properties: diaphoretic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anthelmintic, antitumor and anti-inflammatory. Its choleretic effect is used for gastrointestinal diseases, slow down the rhythm of the heart.

Using the components of this plant, ulcers heal, round worms (roundworms) are removed. A clear improvement is observed in patients with renal stone disease, migraines, epilepsy, skin diseases, including infectious (scabies), with dislocations and open wounds. This tonic and aphrodisiac increases pressure, increase the tone of the gastrointestinal tract. Tansy essential oil tends to excite the nervous system.

Tansy - dosage forms

As a medicine, flower baskets, leaves, from which powder, infusions, decoctions and aromatic oil are made, are used. Leaves at the beginning of flowering are separated from the pedicels and dried in dryers. Plant juice mixed with honey or sugar syrup is also used. Tansy is a weakly poisonous plant and expels roundworm from the body.

Tansy - recipes

- Infusion or decoction of tansy is prepared from the same amount of raw material, and is used for various diseases: 2 tbsp. tablespoons of dried chopped tansy flowers pour 0.5 liters of boiling water, boil over low heat for 10 minutes. The infused solution is filtered and consumed three times a day before meals. Peptic ulcer: drink half a glass.

- Tansy wine: 50 g of flowers, 1 bottle of nutmeg wine. Insist 8 days. Drink at a rate of 30-40 grams after a meal.

- A mixture for the treatment of roundworms: tansy, wormwood, chamomile - 1 spoon each, bring the mixture to a boil, cool, grind a clove of garlic, add to the solution. Microclysters spend at night.

Tansy - contraindications

Since this medicinal plant has a slightly toxic effect, it can not be used in large quantities. It can cause uterine contractions during pregnancy and premature birth or abortion. Do not give tansy drugs to young children.
